As a mediator, she is hired by both parties to be their neutral mediator to guide the parties' discussions and help the parties make their own decisions regarding their financial and co-parenting issues. This avoids having a court make custodial and financial decisions for the parties and also helps reduce the time, resources and risk involved in protracted and contentious litigation that often provides little benefit or satisfaction to the parties and their children.

As a divorce mediator, Ms. Lawhon helps the parties initiate their divorce or legal separation proceeding and works with the parties to reach full settlement of all issues. She then prepares a draft marital settlement agreement for review by each party's independent consulting attorney. Once the marital settlement agreement is signed by all parties and their attorneys, Ms. Lawhon’s office prepares the necessary paperwork to finalize the parties’ divorce or dissolution with the court. Neither the parties nor their consulting attorneys are required to go to court as the mediated dissolution process takes place completely within the comfort and privacy of Ms. Lawhon’s office.
